Jay Cooke State Park

It’s a beautiful day in the high 70’s (!!!) in northern Minnesota today! I’ve been in Duluth for the weekend and it’s the first sign of spring here. These are the warmest temps of the year so far. I parked across Hwy 23 from a trail head and took a long walk on Spruce Trail. I was mainly looking for butterflies, and I found quite a few! However, they were more excited about the weather than I was and were very active. Most were an orange blur flitting past. I did get great looks at several Compton’s tortoiseshells, though! I saw a lady butterfly but not for long enough to ID it. A red admiral landed above me on a tree for a bit. A comma landed by my foot that I think was a gray…
