What else would you expect, then, but a house sparrow? They’re now abundant across the U.S., and not many people’s favorite birds (here) because they evict cavity nesting birds.

Yet, I get many pictures of them! WSBC6301As a conservationist, I’m guilty of just being annoyed by them and wanting them gone. As an ecologist, though, I admit they present an interesting case of geographic differentiation. These photos were (perhaps obviously, if you know me or follow this blog to now) taken in Wisconsin. Maybe if/when I move elsewhere, I’ll be able to get my own photos of other populations to compare. For now, though, this is all I (personally) have.
